| Newbie Rep Power: 5 ![]() | Urgent Help Please!!!!!!! So I have quickly searched and cant come up with the answer i need. Okay so when I try and log into my laptop, at the first screen where you see your user name and then you are asked to type your password, I type my password and get the following message: The file or directory\Windows\AppPatch is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the Chkdsk utility. From looking at other threads they say go into the start menu etc... however I cant even get that far. The message for me appears at the initial startup screen when I select my user name and where i type in my password. I dont have a disc for Vista so i can't reinstall it. Can anyone help? I have a paper due tomorrow and i need to access it. |

I believe the Vista DVD can be used on different systems, since each one requires it's own serial number. I'd recommend contacting friends and family to see if someone has a Vista DVD you can borrow. Once you have the DVD you can do a system repair, which should help your situation. I hope this helps. |

I dont get the chkdsk message anymore all it says is that The USer Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded. Any other tips/adivce? |
