Solved system tray

How do I turn off the icons in the system tray at the bottom right of screen, the number lock, scroll lock and caps lock? When I click on them nothing happens and when I right click on them nothing happens. I have checked the windows start up program in vista, I cant find any thing that remotely comes close to those icons. Why are they there? What do they do? They where there the day my computer arrived and set up and turned on for the first time. Do they take up system resources? Thanks you guys, cool forum, better than annoyances.org.

Hi bassfisher6522
R. click on a empty space on the Tascbar> Properties>
Notification Area> Customize> Click on whatever you want to hide.
I'm not sure how to "remove" entries, that's something I was going to persue when I had more time.

Hope this helps.

P.S. maybe someone will answer the "Remove" question!

Hi bassfisher,

Those system tray icons are specific to some program that your OEM has installed on your computer's Vista. These are not a part of Vista. You will need to check to see what program this is part of in the computer's documents that was included with your computer to turn it off.

To simply hide just these icons, you can select Hide in the tutorial below as Bare Foot Kid has suggested.

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/76913-notification-icons-customize.html

If you would just like to hide all of the system tray icons except for the clock, then see:

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/138395-notification-area-hide-all-system-icons.html

Hope this helps,
Shawn

bassfisher6522,

I was wondering if you were able to resolve? I have a new HP PC with the same situation. So far I haven't been able to find anything in task mgr or services that seems related. I'd like to kill (rather than hide) the process if possible.

Thanks!
-Mike
