Hi guys, Just got given a new HD from work with Vista Business pre-installed (no install DVD). Has not been run/activated yet so is not paired with a mobo. I have the product key. I want to install it into my existing PC that runs XP and then dual boot. Know enough to understand that if I plug it into my PC as a second drive both MBRs will be independant of each other (on seperate drives) so how will I get a dual boot option? Think it would be easy if I had a a new clean HD with an installation DVD. Can't find any other info on the web with a similar scenario. Any advice would be gratefully appreciated

Welcome to Vista Forums.
If you can borrow a friends Express or Retail Vista installation DVD, you can use it to install it, using your product key number to make it easier to dual boot.

Thanks for the suggestion Shawn - much obliged. However there is a slight problem with your resolution - It would mean actually having friends (let alone some of these actually having an install DVD)!!
Seriously though, somebody has suggested to me that I just install the second HD and manually change the bios to boot from that drive. Then get a boot manager program that will manage the dual boot at start up. Does such a program exist? Is this feasible? I'm itching to get my first taste of Vista! What's the worst that can happen if I try?

I suppose you can try using the free program VistaBootPro to see if it can help with this.

I have not tried this before, so I guess the worst that can happen is that you will have to reinstall everything from scratch.

Considering that I had a free 250GB HD I've now decided to bite the bullet & just buy an OEM version of Vista Home Premium 64. I could do with having Media Centre anyway which isn't on the Businesss edition
