Hello, first of all i wold like to say that i-m not a very "tehnical user",i just have one question,is it possibile that in any way,a 32 bits operating sistem cam see more then 3 gb of ram???
Ihave a pretty good config.,i think...IntelCore 2 Duo T7300 Sant Rosa,gForce 8600 M GS,4 gb Ram DDR 2,160 gb Hdd...
Anyway,i had the 32 bits vista ultimate version on my sistem and it worked very good, however,it only detected 3 gb of ram,and i understand, that all 32 bits sistems see only 3 gb ram...or am i talking ........
Now i have instaled the 64 bits version, and it works great, but i had a very hard time finding the drivers...i can't find o godd part of them...if you can help me in any way, thanks very much...p.s. it can't fiid the 'base sistem device'...you know better then me,wish you the best...

64bit - x64 - What is 64 bit? Beginners’ guide
From the article:
"32-bit systems have a basic problem. Every part of a 32-bit microprocessor relies on the 32-bit technology. That is, not only the quantity of simultaneously managed information equals to 32 bits, but the system also handles the memory in 32-bit units (this operation is called memory addressing). If you install each and every update patch on your Windows XP operating system, it will almost take 256 MB of the memory. If you also want to use professionally set up firewall and anti-virus programs, that memory capacity will be too little, and your system will slow down considerably. The conclusion: convenient and safe solution of an average task requires a memory capacity of 512 MB today. In the case of gamers even 1 GB of memory is not considered to be too much. With the release of Windows Vista, this memory requirement will double because the operating system, which includes a great number of new features, requires 512 MB memory by default. If we install a firewall and an anti-virus program, even that will not suffice, which means that providing a safe and convenient environment for doing some ordinary work with the computer will require 1 GB of memory, and more than that (about 1.5-2 GB) for gamers. And with that, we have come to big issue: 32-bit processors cannot address more than 4 GB of memory due to the above-mentioned, somewhat more than 4 billion available combinations. The average requirements of today are close to that limit. Therefore we can state that the 32-bit system has reached its limits from a technical point of view."
If You have an integrated VGA - card , that will decrease the available amount of system RAM. So it is around 3,2 - 3,5 G at the end of the day, best case ssenario.

Welcome to the Vista x64 Forums

You are correct about the 32bit systems. Depending on their configuration they can use up to 3.5 GB of 4 GB installed.

And while 64bit systems can use larger installations of memory, they require that you have signed drivers for your system.

There a number of resources for x64 drivers for Vista. What drivers specifically are you looking for? Usually, the maker of the device produces the driver. For example, if you have a Nvidia Graphics card, you would goto the Nvidia support web site for the 64bit drivers.

Let us know how we can help you.

first of all.....wow....i didn't expect such a quick reply, thank you again,so,as a conclusion, even though, today there are available 64 bits os,there aren't final,if i can say so,and will have to wait until they'll work properly with all the drivers and stuff, anyway thanksfor the quick reply, and as a question,in my search for all the drivers, softaware, programs and....,i've found a program"Driver Detective"or something like that, and if anyone of you good people have used it,dos it help with allmost anything, couse is pretty expensive, about 30$,i think, and i don't know if it's worth to pay that amount of money?Again thank for your fellowship, and all the replys, only the best...

Windows Vista x64 is a pretty mature solution. Sure, it might not be as good as its UNIX counterpart, it's still stable enough for everyday use. All the systems I own run on 64-bit (including my Macbook). 64-bit is the future and a requirement for addressing more memory than a 32-bit system could. Additionally, a 64-bit system can access more resources on the CPU as well since it now have a wider access width (64-bit wide compared to the old 32-bit width.)

Let's just put it this way, you aren't using your computer to its full potential until you run it in 64-bit mode, the way it was designed to run.
