Windows explorer has to close

tip-o

New Member
Hi,
I've just installed SP1 for my VISTA ultimate X64 version.
After completing the installation, and after the autoreboot, the start menu
is fully available, when I try to access My Computer, windows has to close and tries to find a solution.

How do I get to use the start menu again?
Could someone help me with this?

My system is a Windows VISTA 64 Bit Ultimate.

Many thanks

Tip-o,

You might see if unplugging any device that you can will help since this happens when you click on Computer. Ex: USB drive, etc...

It's possible the SP1 installation got corrupted somehow and a complete reinstall will be necessary ro fix it. :(

You could try doing a System Restore, using a restore point dated before the SP1, to see if it can take you your system back before the SP1 was installed.

I am assuming this problem is only with the 'Computer' access.

Try going into Taskbar and Start Menu Properties > Start Menu tab > Start Menu Customize... button and select the Don't display this item. Hit OK and Apply. Then go back in and re-select Display as a link.

Also you might see if it would work as a desktop icon. Right click on a blank spot on your desktop and select 'Personalize'. On the lefthand side under 'Task' click on 'Change desktop icons'. In the 'Desktop icons' box check 'Computer'. Hit 'Apply'. Good luck.

Thanks for the info. All I have to do is run the mouse on the right side of the start pane without selecting and windows explorer has to close. On the left side of the pane (executable programs) no problem.

Thanks Again
