Is Microsoft Mail 7 the same as Live Mail?

Having just purchased a new HP PC running Vista, I was surprised to see something called Microsoft Mail 7 in place of Outlook express.

I searched Microsoft's web site for information on Mail 7 and found exactly nothing!

The only thing that seams to resemble Mail 7 is Live Mail.

Are these the same product?

If not, what does Live Mail do that Mail 7 does not? I guess I am wondering if there is any reason for downloading and installing Live Mail when I already have Mail 7.

Re: Is Microsoft Mail 7 the same as Live Mail?

Hi Ralph,

Welcome to Vista Forums.

From what I gather here below, it is just another name for the Windows Mail included in Vista.

New Developer Features for Windows Mail 7

You might give Windows Live Mail (WLM) a try though. It is free and you can have WLM run as the default email program, or use both WLM and Windows Mail. WLM supports Pop3, IMAP, HTTP website (EX: Hotmail) email, and is a lot more stable. Plus, WLM will minimize to a tray bar icon, checks spelling as you type messages, and has a separate Inbox for each email account. WLM will automatically import Windows Mail messages, accounts, and settings into it. Contacts will have to be manually imported from within WLM. (Tools, Contacts, File, Import, Address book for current Windows User.) To see the Menu bar, press ALT+M and check "Show all menus".

Hope this helps,
Shawn
