cannot save

About a month ago I started to not be able to save, or save as, documents or webpages. A dialog box opens that says: save as not responding.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Re: cannot save

Could come from an icon problem.
Do you have a shellicon key in: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer

Re: cannot save

Sorry, i did not mention about regedit.
Surely you've installed some program to use special icons or something like that (ask your son ).
So, run regedit and go to HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\shellicon and rename the shellicon key as shelliconold for example.
Reboot and try the save as function again.

Warning: Make a restore point before changing things in the registry in case of, unless you know exactly what you're doing.

Re: cannot save

You're a genius. After I did what you said and it worked! my son admitted to downloading icons.
Thanks so much,

Hello sco.

Sidney1st hasn't been around for a while.
I'm not sure if this will help but it can't hurt to have a look at this tutorial; at the link below.
