how do I keep two windows open side-by-side

I'm new. Trying get a handle on these TABS. Can anyone tell me how to have two windows open at the same time, like when I'm copying from one into another and need to see both windows at once instead of tabbing back and forth?

My Computer

In your browser you can always Tile the windows, I don't use IE but I just opened it and I don't see a Tile or Cascade Windows option anymore. I still have the option in Avant Browser which I've used instead of IE for over 4 years now.

Chappy, yes I'm using IE7, and I can't find a Tile option. I know there must be a really simple answer to this question, but I just can't figure it out.

Hi jjjj,

You could open two separate windows and use the Show Windows Side by Side option when you right click on the taskbar.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hey Shawn...did MS really take the Tile and Cascade Windows out of the IE options??
That's just plain dumb IMHO, even with Tabbed browsing! Most of the main tabbed browsers still have those features, I know Avant does and I'm pretty sure that F/F and Opera do as well, I just can't see a logical reason why MS would eliminate those from IE.
Of course, they've been known to do a few "Illogical" things before in their history eh..;)
When I did use IE, I used the tile windows frequently, especially when I had the 4 IRC Security channels I OP open.

Shawn -- "Show Windows Side by Side" seems to tile only windows that are already separately open. I'm talking about when I have two tabbed items in one browser window. In other words, they aren't separately open, and that's my problem. I can't get to them both at the same time.

My Computer

Trying to be a little clearer -- what I need to do is to have two tabs open at the same time side-by-side. Brink, thanks for the tutorial but you're right , it doesn't quite do what I need. This seems to simple! I DO know how to turn off tabbed browsing and that may be the only answer, but it seems crazy.

My Computer

jjjj,

It would be nice to have that option, but it is just not in IE7. :(

Having a separate window open is the only alternative that I know of.

Sorry,
Shawn

Shawn,
Having another window open is exactly what I want. How do I do that? If I open something from my desktop, or even by typing in a new URL, the new website opens within my already open browser, simply on another tab.

My Computer

Hi JJJJ,

Only easy way to accomplish I've found is to have the links in my favorites folder. I can open the first window and then click on the second link in favorites while holding down the shift key. It then opens in a new window.

Oh ok jjjj,

Doh! :o

In addtion to Gary's post, see if in Option One of this tutorial this will help allow what you want:

1. Dot Always open pop-ups in a new window.
2. Dot A new window. (For Links)

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/78771-internet-explorer-tabbed-browsing.html

You will need to close and reopen IE7 to apply the changes.
