Vista password.

I entered a new password for my administrator account and then tried to log on but was denied access. I must have fat fingered the keys when I entered the new password. Now I can't reset the password or do much of anything because I have been locked out. Has anyone else had this happen. Feeling really dumb.

Hi kfbikeman,

Welcome to Vista Forums.

In your case since you know the old password, you might try Method Five using Scenario 1 in this tutorial mentioned by Ted for a System Restore.

Reset User Account Password

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Try this software: http://www.newfreedownloads.com/Wind...d-Changer.html

It isn't free, but i think the demo will let you use it for 30 days.
Don't try and SET a password with this software, just leave the 'new password' entry blank. The program does not re-write the hash. It is much safer to leave it blank and change it the next time you logon.

Re: Vista password.

Or you could download this live cd for vista and burn it to a cd. It is a linux distro that is bootable. Just place it in your drive and reboot. When prompted, press any key to boot from cd. You will enter a linux environment with a method to find all users and passwords of the computer. I have used the live-XP cd and it worked just fine.
I presume the same goes with Vista. Oh and it's free btw.
