Are you sure you want to copy this file without it's properties?

Hi everyone,
as you can see by the headline, i am having trouble with copying files to my mp3 player. I have done a search on this forum and found that someone last year had the same problem, but the problem wasn't solved for that person, so i thought to start a new thread.

My problem started a couple of days ago, up until then everything was fine, i could copy files to my mp3 player with no problems, sometimes i would've got the messge 'Are you sure you want to copy this file without it's properties?', i'd press yes and it would copy the files ok. But now the same message comes up, and it doesnt copy the properties. I actually tried playing my mp3 player and it crashes (restarts), until i remove the file that doesnt have the properties. I know my drive is supposed to support NTFS, my mp3 player is fat32 format and it did copy files for me up until a few days ago.

Could you please help
Alan

And if you try a right click on the device in explorer then open as a portable device would the message still appear ?
Do you have the rights in the security tab of the device ?

Also, are you copying files from the same location every time or is the location changing? Some of the locations in Vista have much more stringent security permissions attached to them than others....so, copying a file from, say, C:\Program Files\ versus copying a file from C:\Users\{yourloginname}\Music\ will have very different permissions....

ok, i thought i was getting somewhere with Sids post, i opened as a portable device, then copied a file to the device, it took longer than it usually did to copy, no message came up, i thought that was it, i played the file on the computer and it played , in the device file (with out the message coming up saying that it wasnt able to play the file).
When i was scrolling for the file in my mp3 player, it crashed again soon as it came to the file. It wont let me get near the file in my mp3 player.
I have the rights in the security tab.

John, i didnt know that, can i move all the files (that i want to copy) to a different file, then try copy them to the device?
Come to mention it, i did have some bother moving some of my file on my computer to other files, it kept saying that i need permission to do this, but there was nothing i could do, i am the admin. and it still wouldnt let me.

See all this trouble with security rubbish, there was none of that in my last XP computer. If someone wanted to get into your computer and files, they will!

I moved the files into another folder in my desktop, tried it again, no good. When i even try to play the file on my computer, as message comes up in a window in the mulitimedia player saying...
The file you are attempting to play has an extention (mp3.) that does not match the file format. Playing the file may result in unexpected behavior.

i'm pulling my hair out here lol

Check if you have something like that, inheritable permissions included:

You may try registering the file :

1. Click Start, All Programs, Accessories then right click on
2. Command Prompt and select "Run as Administrator"
3. cd to your windows\system32 directory enter the following command:
regsvr32 vbscript.dll

yep, still the same. I cant understand it. Its not that i messed about with settings or anything, it just started to happen.

Earlier on today, i copied about 10 files at once to see what it would do, and it copied 2 successfully, but the others had something wrong with there properties. So i checked the properties on the file that was allowed to be copied, and the properties with the file that was not allowed to be copied, and there was no difference in either.
