| Just Plain Nuts | Vista 64 and 8GB's of ram I have 8GB's of Mushkin ram coming from Newegg, and I'm curious if I can get Vista 64 installed on my machine, with all 8GB's in there or if I will have to install with just 4GB's in my machine. I haven't found anything out yet, on the net. The memory that is coming are matched sets of 2GBX2 Mushkin DIMMS. |

| Antidisestablishmentarian | Re: Vista 64 and 8GB's of ram I have heard many say that you shouldn't have all 4 slots filled, but I think that is chipset specific - what motherboard are you running, and what CPU? If it is an nVidia chipset based mobo (650/680/750/780/790) then definitely only install with a single stick installed (although I have flawlessly installed with both my 2 GB sticks installed....) Other chipsets I cannot be sure about. EDIT - Added the following: Doh! I am an idiot - I never looked at your sig - but since it is an Intel 975, perhaps someone with experience with those chipsets can chime in.... |

| Just Plain Nuts | Re: Vista 64 and 8GB's of ram My motherboard is the Intel D975XBX2 which is listed in my sig, using the latest bios, and the board itself uses the Intel 975 chipset. I have all four DIMM slots filled right now with 1GB DDR2 800 DIMMS. Update, I checked the manual for my board, and I can use 2GB DIMMS in all four slots. Honestly I don't have Vista 64 running on my machine right now, as I removed it thinking it was causing problems with my harddrives awhile back, but the problem with my harddrives turned out to be Diskeeper. |

| Newbie | Re: Vista 64 and 8GB's of ram I had OCZ DDR3 1333 8G on my Board, major problems.. could not get my rig to run stable, even 4G didnt do it for me. The problem was the OCZ, running on corsair 4G now for 2 days, hoping for a bios update so i can run 8 gigs of OCZ.. Probably better if u try 4G first, if your rig runs stable place 2 more and so on ! |

| Just Plain Nuts | Re: Vista 64 and 8GB's of ram I'm going to get Vista 64 reinstalled tonight using the four 1GB Crucial DDR2 800 DIMMS that I have now, and then put the new memory in, when it arrives on Wednesday. I did also check an online memory compatibility list for my board, and I can indeed have all four DIMMS slots filled with 2GB DIMMS, but to be on the safe side, I'm going to get Vista 64, as I said reinstalled tonight using the memory I have presently. |

| Just Plain Nuts | Re: Vista 64 and 8GB's of ram Newegg.com - mushkin 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory I also checked the Mushkin forums, and the Mushkin website, and I can indeed use the ram I ordered on my board. The ram is DDR2 800 memory. |

| Newbie | Re: Vista 64 and 8GB's of ram I use Vista Ultimate x64 with the Evga 780i system board with 8 gig of OCZ Reaper HPC Edition memory and it works like a charm. I put it all in during the build and everything worked like a great. Last edited by dropgun; 06-07-2008 at 11:39 PM. |

| Just Plain Nuts | Re: Vista 64 and 8GB's of ram Hmm, I noticed somebody else on this forum is having trouble installing with all 8GB's installes on his board, but that is starting to sound like his board went south. I got Vista 64 reinstalled on the 4GB's that I have now, and it's actually performing better since I dumped Diskeeper, which was causing me a lot of problems. I will be putting the new memory in Wednesday when I get it. |
