Need Advice please

hi all again

first off thanks to everyone who reads this and can offer any kind of advice.

i can't get media player to play dvd's it tells me to ''lower my resolution'' which is set at 1680 x 1050.
i do this and nothing i take the resolution all the way to 800x600 and nothing gives me the same message so i surmized that their was another problem.

I recently just upgraded my motherboard and ram and ended up having to rebuy vista as my computer was previously factory built.

now i'm wondering if i have missed something or just keep missing an option.

thanks again to all who give me any advice on this.

oh other players work like power dvd but my version is not really compatible with vista so i get loads of warnings and strange things happening, i would really like to get media player working as i like the way it work(thats when it works lol)

Gareth

Re: Need Advice please

Surely a codec compatibility.
What are the codecs for mpeg2 installed in your system?

Hello gazz496.

This is the only one you need; make sure you get the one for 32-bit!

It's odd really that you're having this problem. Vista plays DVDs ok, without the need for any additional codec packs. Uninstall all those packs you installed. It's the only way to be sure that you get rid of the one thats causing this problem.

Then use the link that Bare Foot Kid gave you (Vista Codec Package Homepage). It's the only codec pack you'll ever need - just download the correct version for your Windows Vista (32bit or 64bit).

Re: Need Advice please

To add to Peter's post:

When you go to the website, regardless of which version of Vista (32bit or 64bit) you have you'll want the Codec package - but if you have the 64bit then you need to get the additional package just underneath that.

Re: Need Advice please

No, you install the 32bit codecs *first* and then install the 64bit part.
