My computer keeps freezing

Ok, my computer is fairly new, about 2 1/2 weeks old. And past week or so, I been experiencing random and sudden freezing. The first time it happened was when I was playing BF2. Another time when it happened was when I was browsing the web and listen to iTunes. So far, my computer froze about 6 times. I know it froze because there is a repeating sound of either my game or the songs. And also the Num Lock light won't turn off or on and the mouse pointer is frozen. Hodling CTRL+ALT+Delete does not respond.

Just now, while browsing this forum using the key "Page Down", it froze. It's like any sudden movement will freeze my computer.

My computer is HP m8430f. Specs are

Quad 6600
4MB Ram
Windows Vista SP1 64 bits

Re: My computer keeps freezing

are you up to date with current drivers and updates? and what anti-virus program(s) do you have because they might not be compatible. I had a similar problem not too long ago.

Re: My computer keeps freezing

What are your specs and your power supply specs? Do you have a multimeter? If yes, check your 12V voltage. It could be your power supply 12V rails are too small for your hardware.

Re: My computer keeps freezing

I have all the latest updates expect for my graphic card. The computer came with Norton Security 2008 (60 days trial).

My specs are here:

HP Pavilion Media Center m8430f Desktop PC*-* Product Specifications*

I believe the power supply is 300w.

Re: My computer keeps freezing

Verify your power supply. I have seen power supplies cause gaming issues with lacking enough 12V current to power a graphics adapter and CPU for gaming.

Re: My computer keeps freezing

Hi,

Random freezing can indicate a hardware fault. However, since your PC is fairly new, you need to exercise your warranty. DO NOT open your PC as you could invalidate your warranty.

I still have random freezes. It's not as bad as when I first had x64 installed, but I don't have full confidence (to say the least) in Vista x64.

Re: My computer keeps freezing

I googled BEX64 and it means a buffer overflow. buffer overflow can be an attack by a virus or trojan so try a virus scan. if that doesn't work, its a good idea to use your warranty and get them to fix it.
