Lost System Restore Points

IHello, just upgraded to Vista x64 .Am quite impressed with it so far. After all the negatives I have heard about it, I was quite sceptical.Didn't need to be.Anyway, my question.
I turned off System Restore ,then thought seeing as I have the HDD space I may as well use it.I switched System Restore back on and thought no more about it. Now I notice there are no restore points. It should set a restore point at boot up and before installing software? It does neither and I can't find an option to turn it on.
Thank you

Well, I have now turned off system restore BUT it still wouldnt set a restore point at startup or at midnight , even though they were both set up in task scheduler. It did set points when installing certain programs . Not having used system restore before I didnt realise that it was only when cetain installers were used, I thought it was every time a program was installed. It also set up points when using backup(which I have also turned off , in favour of Acronis True Image).
Also, followed the instructions to delete old restore points, but they wouldn't delete!
Still not sure if its a good idea to turn it off.Was worried by how much disc space it was using, but I guess with 132GB system disc and 796GB of storage ,its not too bad:rolleyes:

I too have this problem. I tried deleting the "old" task and creating a "new" task.
I used every available trigger in an attempt to get it create "Restore Points" to no avail.
I have found it easier to just create a point once a day.

Cheers Ted, I didnt follow the guide properly .I have re enabled System Restore, and done a couple of restore points, deleted via disk cleanup , and am left with just the last one. Also changed the maximum size used for system restore.

Hello Saldawop!

You're quite welcome.

The real credit belongs to Shawn aka Brink and Vista Forums; without whom
I would be just as clueless as when I first hit the power button on this thing.

PS, I don't believe he still has grey matter, I think he's replaced it with a 64-bit Vista OS.

Later ;) Ted
