System Restore Problem

Hi

I have been having a problem with 'System Restore' I have tried to restore my sytstem

to different restore points but always end up getting the same message:

"System Restore did not complete successfully. Your computer's system files
and settings were not changed. An unspecified error occurred during System Restore. You might try System Restore again and choose a different restore point."

My OS is Vista business, 32bit, Service Pack 1. Installed on a Sony Vaio NR21M laptop.

200gb H/D & 2.0.gb ram.

I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem & could offer some advice.

Many thanks

Harry

Re: System Restore Problem

Did you get any error numbers? Do you have any Norton/Symantec sofware installed try this link
http://bertk.mvps.org/html/symantecdoc1.html

If you receive an error while restoring, then use it from safe mode and it should work fine. To get into Safe mode, you can reboot and use the F8 key right before Windows starts up.
Or maybe this will help you
For the 32bit and 64bit question, you can refer to the following thread:
http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2340069&SiteID=17

Hope some of it will help

Re: System Restore Problem

Hi

Thanks for the reply.

I don't have any Norton installed. The error message did not supply me with a specific error number it said An unspecified error occurred. I am running AVG? I am going to try a few things that I found out on the Bert Kinney 'Microsoft Most Valuable Professional' website System Restore in Windows Vista:

I will report back to the forum if I find a solution to this problem.

Thanks for the suggestions & any further would be welcome.

Re: System Restore Problem

Hi, edintrouble, and welcome to the forums.

Did you go into Vista and manually make a new restore point, and then see if the new restore point works? XP may have already messed up those SRPs before you got the chance to hide Vista from it....

Not if a driver do not allow the system to restore properly
