I see this type of error a lot on both Vista and XP systems. It is the results of a boot-critical file not being able to load properly because of some random error in the memory of the computer. Even though a memory test says there are no problems, try shutting down then removing your memory, and then reseating them after carefully blowing out any dust particles that may have accumulated.

If you have overclocked your memory, also try resetting to factory defaults.

If none of the above works, try running a thorough disk check on your boot drive.

im not entirely sure whether this will work or not but give it a shot...

on your motherboard there is the battery, try taking it out and putting it back in....i think that this wipes any information stored on the motherboard when it is turned off. turinng it back on will reset everything back to normal.

i hope this helps.

Question: which fix worked?
  • Pull/clean the memory chips
  • Pull the battery to reset the board
  • Chkdsk on the boot drive

My Computer

JMikeF, could be either worked. A corrupt BIOS setting may have caused the failure and scottys suggestion would have fixed that.
Badly seated or ram that has moved would have been fixed by reseating it.
Sometimes the easiest fixes are the best.
Well done guys.

Well, as a former SW tester, I've learned that if you troubleshoot, it's best to make one change at a time. That way, you can definitely pinpoint the problem. ;)

My Computer

I have the same problem, I have tried all other trouble shooting steps, none worked.

my computer loads up until the Vista logo and then just reloads.
