| Newbie Rep Power: 2 ![]() | Cannot re/name folders! Hi, Can someone please help me? I have just recently started having a problem where I cannot name or rename any folders in vista. When I rename or name a folder it looks like it will work, but then it just reverts back to being named 'new folder'. I've looked all over the net, but can't seem to find a solution which works. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thanks. |

| Newbie Rep Power: 2 ![]() | Re: Cannot re/name folders! Hi Roy, Thanks for your help. I downloaded the bug fix but nothing changed after the restart. I also checked my windows update history, and I don't have the KB938979 update yet. The problem described in the link you posted is exactly what is happening though (I also can't move folders). Do you have any other ideas what could fix this bug? Cheers. |

I have had this problem a couple of times in the past but the problem solved itself. Have you put sp1 on lately. On your update history is there any updates just prior to the bug. Have a look in your error logs for any disk related errors. Run checkdisk. Check permissions and also if the disk has gone read only. |

| Newbie Rep Power: 2 ![]() | Re: Cannot re/name folders! Hi Guys, Thanks for all your help. I've tried the tutorial, to no avail, and there's no errors on the disk. I have put on SP1 about a month ago, but I could still work with folders after that. Here's a list of my updates immediately prior to the folder problems: - Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB915597 (Definition 1.37.746.0) [16 July 2008], and - Update for Windows Vista (KB955020) [16 July 2008]. When I check the 'properties' on a folder, it has "read-only (only applies to files in folder" ticked. Does this mean anything? Thanks. |
