| Vista 32bits Sp2 Ultimate | Re: System restore (SP1) I'm using a laptop which - looking at the hdd properties in computer manage - has an eisa partition of 700mb and the actual c: of 93go I wonder if this is what would prevent me from using the system restore which give such error messages Failed to create restore point on volume (Process = C:\Windows\system32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs; Descripton = Windows Update; Hr = 0x8004231f). Any help is most welcome |

| VISTA HOME PREMIUM X64/ 7 x64 / 7x86 | Re: System restore (SP1) Hi, Might be Vista hasn't got the space on the eisa partition to store a shadow copy of it. Does this show as a separate partition , e.g. volume D or similar ? If so, Open system restore, click create restore point or change settings and uncheck drive D. If it's not showing as a separate volume then right click computer > manage > disk management and if it is there , right click the volume, give it a drive letter,e.g. D then restart. Then uncheck it from system restore as above. Hope this helps SIW2 |

| Vista 32bits Sp2 Ultimate | Re: Couldn't create a system restore point in Vista I've attached a word file to describe the issue. I can't make any backup or restore or create a restore point. Any search for a result has been to no avail so far. Kind regards |

| Vista 64-bit Ultimate Win7 64-bit Ultimate XP SP3 32-bit Pro | Re: System restore (SP1) Hello calabrache. SYSTEMRESTORE.doc From what I see in that doc. is that you are trying to create a restore point for the wrong drive. From my understanding: to create a restore point for C: (windows drive) you have to create it on C: the active windows drive. From the snip I took from your doc. you are attempting to create it on the wrong drive. Try to create a point on the C: "System" and let me know! ![]() Keep us informed! Later Ted |

| VISTA HOME PREMIUM X64/ 7 x64 / 7x86 | Re: System restore (SP1) Hi, What is that drive identified as SW_Preload(C) (Missing), is that the 700mb eisa volume ? If it is, you won't be able to create a restore point of this so untick it (there isn't enough room on it to fit a shadow copy of itself). Try ticking only SW_Preload (C) (System) and create a restore point - if it works, then create another but this time also tick Local Disk (D). Hope this helps SIW2 ( Sorry , in my previous post I thought you only had a C drive and the eisa partition was unnamed - didn't know you also had another drive already named D.) |

| Vista 64-bit Ultimate Win7 64-bit Ultimate XP SP3 32-bit Pro | Re: System restore (SP1) @SIW2, D: is probably the "Factory Recovery" partition and if so there will not be enough room on that to create a point on either! Later Ted |

| VISTA HOME PREMIUM X64/ 7 x64 / 7x86 | Re: System restore (SP1) Yes Kid, it could well be the recovery partition - but as long as he gets a shadow copy of C then fails when trying C and D together, he will know only to tick box C for future restore pts. Calabrache - have a look and see if you have a folder named WAU anywhere ( could be inside the recovery partition ). If you have, post back and I'll show you how to make a full installation dvd from these. I have just seen you have Vista ultimate - did this come pre-installed and presumably you have the install disc anyway? SIW2 |

| Vista 32bits Sp2 Ultimate | Re: System restore (SP1) I did realise the document wasn't very clear - i've updated with the pdf attached. The T61p has on EISA partition of 700Mb, which i can not access with anything, the a C: partition (called sw_preload) of 93MB of which about 45 are used. Then i use an external usb drive to do backup (f: or D . I have reviewed the file (pdf) hopfully that shall be clearer. Strange enough lenove Rescue and Recovery is working fine, but not way to use MS B&C center, and especially the system restore feature.Any help most welcome Regards |

| Vista 32bits Sp2 Ultimate | Re: System restore (SP1) Thanks to an advise Re: System restore - T Series ThinkPads - lenovo community i did run manualy wbadmin start backup -backupTarget:f: -include:c: and the MS B&R Center is back on track and it has become again possible to create restore point. It seems to release some space of B&R to work. Thanks to all of you who helped in finding the solutions. Regards |

Besides, if something is 700 MB in size, that should be your first clue - why in the world would you try to create a restore point on something that tiny? 700 MB is roughly 1 CD - and since SR uses about 12% of the space of any drive by default, you're looking at a whopping 84 MB. From the Windows Help link on this pic: ![]() We get the following: How much disk space does System Restore require? To store restore points, you need at least 300 megabytes (MB) of free space on each hard disk that has System Protection turned on. System Restore might use up to 15 percent of the space on each disk. As the amount of space fills up with restore points, System Restore will delete older restore points to make room for new ones. System Restore will not run on disks smaller than 1 gigabyte (GB). |
