Multple desktops

I have suddenly obtained multiple virtual desktops. Most of my original desktop now appears in one or other of the virtual desktops. How can I remove them and get back to my original format. If I try to delete them others appear. Any ideas?

Have you changed the name of a user? I am suspecting that when I did that (twice), it created another Desktop folder. I ended up with what appears to be three 'levels' so when you look at the lowest level, the path is Users\originalid\Desktop\Desktop\Desktop
See if your current desktop is that last one. I guess it runs but is aesthetically disgusting.

Do you mean you're using one of those Virtual Desktop switching programs like in most Linux things ? Most of those never seem to work very well...

Nothing so exotic - I bought an officedepot demo and knowing nothing about anything I immediately changed the officedepot userid to blabla via the built in offer to change my name. Later I changed blabla to blabla2 and then I noticed that there were still no Users\blabla2 folders, but Users\officedepot was still there. It apparently doesn't rename the filepath but just uses some kind of alias apparatus to substitute blabla2 for officedepot. I think it refers to you as blabla2/officedepot. I added other users and they were plainly listed in their own filepath under users. This is how I achieved multiple desktops in the Users/officedepot filepath, only one of which executes.

try uninstalling office depot see if that restores your original desktop if not you could go to a previous restore point before you installed the officedepot.

and when you reinstall it avoid creating new users
hope this helps some
