    Re: Hi

Hello Dean, and welcome to Vista Forums.

This would be a good place to start. We can move it to another section (forum) later if it can help you get a solution quicker.

Please describe you problem with as much details as you can. Be sure to include any error messages, programs running or cause of, etc....

    Regards,

    Re: Hi

    Great ! thanks alot

Well it all started this morning
I booted up my PC after it being shut off all night and i type in my password and then the start up programs start running then all of a sudden the PC freezes totally. No ctrl+alt+delete only the mouse can move.

So i thought it might be a once off thing
so i restart in normal mode and it happens again
this time i get an error from rainlender2 it says something about it could not load the old settings.

i thought rainlender might be behind the problem, so i uninstalled it in safe mode. then i went back to normal mode and it was still mucking up, freezing.

I am stumped to why it is doing this, it never did it before...

thanks so much for your help guys
i have no idea why it is doing this

    Regards

    Dean

    Re: Hi

    Dean,

    In addition to Ripbox's question:

Since this just recently happened, you might try doing a System Restore using a restore point dated before the problem you are having to see if it can fix it. I would recommend using Method Two in this tutorial for how if needed.

    System Restore - How to

    Hope this helps,

    Re: Hi

    Hey shawn

    thanks for the reply

i tried doing what you said and i restored to a couple of days before this started happening...

    however the problem got worse

when i started it up i typed in my password and the PC froze on the windows loading/welcome screen...anyways i was able to fix this, by going into safe mode were it completed the restoration... now the same initial problem is occurring...i.e freezing within 1 min of loading windows

    this is so puzzling

i also did not install anything when i used it last

thanks for any advice and help

    Regards

    Dean

    Re: Hi

    Dean,

I would go with the repair (upgrade) install then. Be sure to backup what you do not want to be safe.

    Re: Hi

Thanks for the help once again...

To be honest i think i will just reformat the damn thing...

i have no idea why it started happening and usually with computers there is a reason for things like this...

i will just back up my stuff in safe mode (i hope i can) and reformat...

its always good to start a fresh now and then anyways

thanks so much for the help, i really appreciate it

    Dean

    Re: Hi

Sounds like a hanging driver really. These can be troubleshot successfully and repaired.
You said you booted into Safe Mode, I take it the system was stable in that mode? If so, that only reinforces that it's a 3rd party driver causing this.
If you want to try and find it, boot back into Safe and then open msconfig, click Start, type msconfig, click msconfig.exe in the search box that opens and then select the "Diagnostic Startup" option. Try booting regularily, and if it works properly go back into msconfig, select Selective startup this time, Uncheck all the boxes except :Load system services" and reboot. If it works properly, put a check in the Load Startup items" box and reboot. If it fails this time, then you know something it that list is causing the problem. Boot into Safe mode again and then in the Startup tab, uncheck all the items except for the first one, then reboot. If it boots properly, keep adding one more item in the list rebooting between each one until the failure comes back again. Then you know which one is causing the problem and you can uninstall and reinstall that item to repair it, or find an updated driver for it.

    Good Luck
