Fresh Vista x64 install + Adobe Reader 9.0 = No thumbnail previews

If this is in the wrong forum, I appologize and please move it.

I just finished a fresh install of Vista Ultimate x64 and after setting up my drivers, I installed Adobe Reader 9.0. To my disappointment, I have no thumbnail previews of .pdf files. I've double checked to make sure "always use thumbnail instead of icons" was checked in the control panel and checked everything else I could think of. I even went back and uninstalled 9.0 and reinstalled 8.0 to see if it was a problem with the latest update. Both the installs were done with standalone installers. This is my first x64 install (using x86 Vista previously), is this an issue with x64 Vista or Adobe? Anyone else experience this? I looked at ditching Adobe altogether and using Foxit, but it apparently doesn't do thumbnail previews either. Man the stuff you take for granted after a while...

I've just noticed (thanks to this post) that I, too, have no thumbnails from PDF files (on the same setup). This is most likely linked to the problem in Outlook 2007, where the PDF Preview Handler has a problem with Vista x64.

This is a problem from Adobe's PDF Reader. I've seen suggestions of uninstalling it and getting Foxit PDF Reader instead, but I prefer the Adobe reader - it's much more slimlined and the new version is so fast to load (with Foxit, they seem to every button you could possibly put in the program on one toolbar: http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/reader_2/img/23/reader23scr.jpg).

I don't think it's a problem w/ Outlook since I don't have Outlook installed. I have a suspicion that it has to do with updating existing installations of Adobe Reader vs. Standalone installations.

Anyone know right off hand what the first version of Adobe Reader that was compatible with Vista?
