Recent programs and user settings reset on login

here is a list of my issues and i believe them to be all related
-my recent programs list reset to the default
-any applications i tell not to launch from system tray only, it continues to launch on startup
-some applications that i change the window size of will continue to go to the default size


well i have looked around to fix this and i have not had any luck. i am currently deployed in iraq so any extra help would be greatly appreciated given that i don't have the time to put into issues.

Have you disabled the programs you don't want to start at startup in "System Configuration" or just the system tray?

well that isn't what i really want to know. I am very familiar with system config. I know i can shut off programs that run on start up there. That still doesn't correct my whole issue, with recent program list being reset everytime I reboot my machine.
