Shadow Copy....

Hi I'm pretty new to vista having just purchased a laptop. I'm having trouble adjusting shadow copy's properties to use less hd space because it is using my space like there is no tomorrow. Every time I try to adjust it with the command prompt (I'm under admin) I get an error

Heres an example of me attempting a few commands.

If anyone could give me a hand or point me in the right direction I would appreciate.

Go to Start > Accessories>All programs> command prompt and right click on command prompt select run as administrator then copy and paste this syntax and press enter:

vssadmin resize shadowstorage /For=C: /On=C: /MaxSize=2GB

Press enter and scroll to your C: you will be able to see the newly available amount of space on your drive your shadow storage will be re sized to 2GB. The failure should be because your storage size is currently set to 10GB

Lance - when yo say you are 'under admin' can you describe how you are getting 'under admin'? If the questions seems a bit trivial or amateurish to you, then realize that I have *no idea* what your technical skills are, and for all I know you might be logged into an administrator account and think that is all you need to do, and it is not....

Well I enter admin by right clicking the command prompt and click run as administrator.

As to following the tutorial pretty much all command prompts following shadow copy come up as catastrophic failure. heres an example of me trying to show the storage
situation.

2 more questions, then:

Have you run HD diagnostics to make sure you are not experiencing symptoms related to a failing HD?

Are you dual booting XP and Vista?

Also, Vista includes the Snipping tool - see http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/148532-how-use-snipping-tool-vista.html on how to use it to attach screenshots to the forums. It'll be a lot easier than trying to copy and paste....

Hmm no I just have vista 64bit. I haven't run any hard drive diagnostics. One question in regards to that do you know if vista comes equip with any software like that. If not could you point me in the direction of some freeware programs.

Here are some commands that I typed in regard to shadow copy.

Also, Lance- after you attach the file using the paperclip icon, use the paperclip icon *again* to actually put it inline in the post.

Also, most HD manufacturers have HD diagnostic software that you can download and run to check your HD. I highly recommend that you get a .ISO version that you can burn to disc and use to boot your computer into their diagnostic program - running diagnostics from inside Windows is cumbersome at best and incomplete at worst.

Okay so I did a system restore to a manual restore point I made before running the registry cleaner and everything was working fine then. So I'm guessing the problems is that something was either removed or damaged during the registry clean. Do have any recommendations as to repairing or should I just go back to the original restore point?

I would just go back to the restore point. Be aware that most registry cleaners do not really make your system run faster or better.
