Hello y'all.

Aside from the 'wasted' expense of trying it to find out if it works what you got to lose?

Keep us informed!

Question.

The tech at HP told me that I need to use the exact same hard drive (Fujitsu 120G) that came with the notebook originally to use the recovery disks to reinstall Vista.

Is that true? I wanted to use a Western Digital 160G HD instead.

Thanks

Not true at all, I upgraded the disks on my Laptop (HP HDX Dragon) and put in bigger and faster ones, used the recovery disks I made and all is well. Just make sure the disks are BIGGER or the same size as the origional and you will be fine.

ok just got a reply from HP, provided the HDD is the same size or larger it should work just fine they even offered to replace it free of charge(bless) and directed me too links to resolve it with step be step walkthroughs but i want a larger HDD so they said it would work no problem at all.

according to them as long as the motherboard is the same it should work as the OS is linked to that.

I am a woman.

I installed the OS from the recovery disks yesterday on the WD 160 Drive. The system reboots itself after 2 minutes tho over and over and over again. Not sure what that is all about. Guess I will have to post another thread. I am going to try the install process again tho.

When you last tried the install, did you only have the essentials plugged in, i.e.
ONLY mouse and keyboard. No peripherals?

Good luck getting them to send you the right drive for your laptop! I've been sent 3 replacement drives and have been waiting close to a year for the right replacement for my hard drive!

sorry i didn't mention i'm updating a desktop but my reply from hp was there would be no problems as long as the motherboard is the same plus they are sending out a HDD as well so i will have a second drive too use. they confirmed the part number with me before they sent it so it should be the same.

how did i become dolly partons number one fan???????????? i never put that there????

I didn't have anything else plugged in sans the power cable. I reinstalled the recovery disk yesterday and now everything is great. Working fine. Now time to try the Vista SP1 upgrade again.

Hello Maria.

I'm glad to see you get it sorted!
If you have trouble with SP1 give this a try at the link below, you can even save
it to disc to have on hand if/when you ever need it again. It's how I do it.

SP1 for 32-bit Vista
