Windows Vista acting up.

I know, Windows Vista is really acting up, I need help on how I can fix this.

  • Explorer will literaly stop working (none of the buttons work, start menu doesn't work, literaly nothing does anything) at random times of the day.
  • Mostly files keep getting deleted in the config folder and I have to turn off UAC in order for them to work.
  • I now have duplicate folders in my user file for "Music, Documents, Videos" that sort of thing. I can't change them back because the destination is apparently invalid, the destination being the original location.
  • A please wait screen every time I shut down, restart or log off of windows.
Can anybody help me, I did a virus scan, defragmented the drive and also cleaned up my hard drive, isn't there any way to fix this?

Hi Taylor, welcome to the forums!

I once saw a similar problem caused by a faulty hard drive cable but it could be several other things. I would run diagnostics on your hardware, look at error logs and hunt for clues.
