defrag progress graph

Hi. Does anyone know why there is no defrag progress graph in vista (like the one there was in xp). The defrag just has a scheduler or defrag now and then there is no way of knowing how far along it is. Any thoughts would be welcome. Thanks.

I use Auslogics and it works great. Nice and light too.

Used to use Diskeeper, but I'm sure that messed my hard drive up causing me to format every 2 months or so.

There is no drive map/GUI for Vista defrag. However, you can get verbose analysis report as well as additional defrag options from the command prompt (run as admin).

Also, when defragmenting Vista (which has the shadow copy service active), with a third party utility it's advisable to use the VSS compatible defrag mode to minimize unnecessary shadow copy activity.
Shadow copies may be lost when you defragment a volume

Hi Everlong,
Which version of Diskeeper did you use, and with what OS? What was the specific problem that you encountered?

Best regards

Well it was one of a few causes possibly, over exaggerated a bit. Can't remember which version I used, it was the $50 one though. The main problem being with the boot-up defrag on Vista 32 bit. I usually just chose to run chkdsk with the defrag (as you have to choose either page file defrag or chkdsk to run) and chkdsk ran first then restarted the PC.
Everytime the PC restarted and Vista started, it would never get past the loading screen, so I just used to do a cold reboot and Vista would load and do the Diskeeper defrag and load normally, but then I would keep getting a message once on the desktop saying the file system was corrupt and to run chkdsk.

Though the hard drive I was using then died soon eventually, and with my new hard drives, I just started using Auslogic's defragger.
