12 instances of svchost

hey all,

I have 12 instances of svchost running at the same time, the largest is eating up 185 mb.... in total, it's eating up 400 mb.

I'm on a home network, connected by a D Link router.

I am only running firefox and some background processes, including the windows media network thing so I can use my PC as a media server.

Is it normal to have this many instances of svchost, and should it be eating up this much of my RAM, or is something wrong here?
I just checked my husband's PC and he has 14 instances running at the same time. His computer is completely different in both parts, and the type of vista (he's using 32 bit). I just want to know whether I should be checking out both computers for something, or whether I should leave it alone.
