Hi nizaradil,

This message appears when the BIOS cannot correctly identify a device on your system. This typically means a problem with the hard drive or the optical drive (possibly the optical drive given the last line in your post about not being able to boot from it). Refer to the manual for details on removing and replacing the drives. It may be a bad connection, in which case this might solve it. Here are a couple of links. The first is to the documentation pages for your laptop and the second is to the Dell Community Forum. On the forum, enter 'The Device in the system modular bay cannot be identified.' into the box under 'Search the forum' and press enter/return. Browse the results to see if anything there helps you. If you wish to ask a question there, you will need to become a forum member.

Here something you may try. Can your optical drive reading data at all? Can you read a file or listen to a CD? If not, you can go to Dell and download the appropriate firmware. The problem should be taken care upon flashing.
