hi,

i have a sata hard drive running windows vista 32 business

how would i format the hard drive completely and start again?

i did a reinstall last weekend but it would not give me the option for format from the DVD, it just gave me a "windows.old" folder which wasn't really what i wanted.

thanks

Hi Steve, and welcome to Vista Forums.

If you have a Upgrade version of the Vista installation DVD, then when you get to step 12 in this tutorial, select the Custom Advanced option to be able to format the drive.

If you have a Full version of the Vista installation DVD, then when you get to step 9 in this tutorial, select the Custom Advanced option to be able to format the drive.

Hope this helps,

Strange...
I think, if you run the CD and on the boot press F8 or ESC you boot from the CD and then you format the Computer...
You need to click to display Drive Settings or something when you are going to choose the partition that you will install the Vista in

Aha, i know something that can FIX.
Run the Extended Disk Cleanup, it has the feature to delete old Windows.

At the screen where you are asked where to install you OS, select the HDD, click on advance then click on format then you are all good to go.
