bad sectors

i got a warring at boot that 1 of my drives is failing.i ran the scandisk
and found after About 85% done i have some bad sectors on my drive.scandisk
didn't fix them so is there a way to mark them bad or have scandisk fix them?

Running chkdsk should mark bad sectors.

don't no what i was thinking before but chkdsk is what i used not scandisk . and after rebooting i still got the warring . it's only a backup drive anyway but i wanted to try fixing it before i trash it.

I suggest you use Seatools, which has several tests for hard disks and can lock out bad sectors from being used. It can be used for other brands of HD, not only Seagate disks.

If you get further bad sectors developing it's time to throw away this disk, or get it replaced if its under warranty.

already downloaded it and tryed testing the drive with short test and it fails all the time. i also just did chkdsk with the /f /r and it said it fixed it. but then i tryed seatools again and it fails .

looking at this info is the drive still usable for backup 's or should i just trash it?

I can't see the "Attachment 6395" image in your message - 404 Not Found.

If it were mine I'd dump it. I know you say "it's only a backup drive" but there's no point having a backup you can't rely on.

It will also tie up processing time. My last drive which was failing was causing all sorts of lockups. I took it apart and use the platters for beer costers
