How to repair disk permissions

Hi,

I removed all permissions of Authenticated Users for my C: drive (entire permissions).

What I did is as follows:
. Right click C:
. Properties
. Security
. Deny all permissions for Authenticated Users

Now I can not reach my drive, can not change permissions again, and can not restore permissions etc.

Even Admin account can not do anything.

What can I do? :)

P.S: Please do not ask me "why, why did you do such thing?".

Thank you

Hi ahmethungari!
Try to recover in system restore point. System Restore helps you restore your computer's system files to an earlier point in time. It is a way to undo system changes to your computer that you did not like the results of without affecting your personal files, such as e‑mail, documents, or photos.

Hi,

There must be a way of changing these permissions using regedit - never done it myself , so I couldn't give you the precise steps.

You should also be able to sort it out through one of the following methods - try them in order - you may need to use Method Two in the first link :

Hi Angelo,

That permissions thing may prevent system restore from operating on C in the normal way .
It's worth trying , as you pointed out - as method two might work. If it doesn't work, he can proceed through the other steps in order.

Hi,

Angelo, I wasn't correcting you , I was agreeing with you - what you suggested is a good first step - and it may well do the job ! I hope so. When I said Method two , I meant Method Two in the first link i.e. the one you had posted.

Hi Angelo,
...It's worth trying , as you pointed out - as method two might work.

However, just in case that doesn't work - I listed other links he may wish to try - including the first one - as the order in which he may like to try them.

Cheers

Thank you for your replies.

System restore is not working as expected. Second method may not also work (my friend tried with an failure, yet I will try, too). I hope the third one will work.

In MacOS there is a special tool to repair disk permissons. What about the Vista? Maybe any third party tools...

Thank again

I guess you've already tried the following, but I'll mention them just in case:

Have you tried logging in as the special "Super Administrator" user?
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67567-administrator-account.html?filter[11]=User%20Accounts

Or you could try right-clicking on a shortcut to Windows Explorer > Run as Admin. Then select Computer in the tree and right click the C: drive in the right panel > Properties > Security.
