Anyone know how I can get the Open With assigned to my right click menu in Vista Ultimate 64?

Thank you.

I'm running Vista Home Premium 64 here.
I've never had "Open With" disappear from my context menu.

Has it always been like this, or has it changed recently?

I can think of two reasons why it may have disappeared from your context menu:
- a virus has changed it
- your permissions have been reduced by the administrator

If your computer has more than one user, you could try logging into the Administrator account to see whether the Admin user sees an Open With context menu item.

Sorry I don't know how the Administrator can re-enable the Open With feature for your user account.

Hello Gedinfo, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Is Open With missing for every file you right click on, or just for certain ones? Some file types like .exe files will not have Open With by default.

You might also run a sfc /scannow command to see if it can find and fix any bad system files that may be causing this.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

As far as I can remember, I have not had Open With since I installed the OS.
I am the administrator, no other users on this machine.
Will attempt the sfc /scannow when I get a chance to, and post the result.

Have you tried running the "SFC /SCANNOW" command from an administrative command prompt as Brink mentioned in an earlier post?

Also, holding down the <SHIFT> key when right-clicking can sometimes force the appearance of the Open With option.

Hi

Remember folks, that option only appears in the context menu under certain circumstances and is NOT available for all files.
It will Not show when you right click on any files where the extension is not associated with a known program. Say you have a file called asd.qwe, since the extension .qwe is unknown and not associated to any installed program, you will not get the Open With option in the context menu.
Also, clicking on a Folder itself will not show the Open With option in the context view. It only shows when you have a file that is recognized by association.
