Solved Power Options Corrupt (power plan unavailable)

Hi,

I recently had graphics card problems and had to get my 8800GTS replaced. This took several weeks and now I'm running a 8800GT perfectly fine.

However, I've noticed my Power Options seem to be corrupt. Upon going into Power Options in the Control Panel, it says "Your power plan information isn't available."

I cannot understand why this has happened. I haven't touched any settings or anything to do with that. I have tried System Restore to an earlier point (before I got my new graphics card) and it didn't seem to help.

The help on the page says that registry keys may have become corrupt or been deleted. I'm not sure if this is the problem, but if it is how can I fix it? System Restore didn't help.

I would like to avoid doing a Repair with the Windows disc. I'm hoping there's an easier way to fix this problem. There has to be! I've been looking on Google and there is hardly anything on this problem. The very few people who do have it cannot seem to fix it, or used previous registry backups (which hasn't worked for me). There doesn't seem to be any resolutions from Microsoft at all.

I also tried using the "powercfg" commands in the command prompt, but didn't seem to have any luck there either.

I'll really appreciate any assistance! I cannot Hibernate or Sleep at the moment and it's a real inconvenience. I'd really like my Power Options back!

Thank you very much,

Domsy

Edit: Oh, and I've used "sfc /scannow" to check for corrupt files and it came back clean.

Well, I'm quite amazed not a single person has replied (funny how my other problem has gone unanswered too). Guess I must have very uncommon problems!

I'm glad to say I've managed to fix it though. As described on a website somewhere, someone else managed to fix it by restoring the registry keys associated with it.

I decided to export the ones on my mum's laptop, delete mine, and then import her's to mine. It seems to be working fine! All Power Options are back, I can change how my PC shuts down, and I can Sleep now! And this was all without a restart. I'm guessing I can Hibernate also; I'll find out when I want to turn my PC off later.

If anyone else has this problem and needs a copy of the registry keys, I can send you them (I believe they work regardless of the computer. I had concerns because it was a laptop, but it seems fine). I'd rather not post them publicly as I am not sure of the sensitivity of them.

SOLVED! Power Options Corrupt (power plan unavailable)

:D Fixed it with powercfg.exe under an Administrators command prompt -- (screenshot)

There was a bad profile there "()" messing things up.

First I changed the active profile via cut and paste to one
that existed, THEN I deleted the bad one.
After this, the control panel dialog returned!

Glad you managed to fix it! I used the same method originally but had no luck. It seemed to be down to my corrupt registry keys and replacing them with another computer's keys fixed it.

That looks interesting. That's odd I overlooked that when I had the issue. Pitty I didn't know about it as I could have tried it to see if it would have worked for me. Would have been a lot easier!

Thanks for posting it. I hope it can help someone else.

1.Run cmd.exe with administrative previlliges (right click on this file as admin) and type

sfc /scannow

2.If point one no help try to import fix to registry attached below - but will be a small problem with permissions because only SYSTEM account have full control to all these subkeys. The best way to workaround this problem (without changing permisssions) is run regedit from SYSTEM account.Download PSTools PsTools
extract from this psexec.exe and place it in C:\Windows\System32
next run cmd.exe with administrative previlliges and type

psexec -s -i -d regedit

Next choose File>>Import :choose my *.reg file, apply +restart computer

My Computer

Would you please send me a copy of the registry keys that restored your power options.

Thanks

so i have tried to follow Flavius directions in post 8 however i am stomped by the last part of your direction..... the part where u say:

Next choose File>>Import :choose my *.reg file, apply +restart computer

When I click import on the registry editior i am confused as to what i should type as the file name.... Can u please be a bit more specific...

also wat am I doing with the Power opt attachment.. when i open it where do i save it to?? The last part of the directions has me COMPLETELY stomped so hoping for a clearer response..

Thanks and much appreciation all the way from trinidad and tobago!

:sleepy::sleepy::sleepy:

1.Download PSTools PsTools
extract from this psexec.exe and place it in C:\Windows\System32
2.Download PowerOpt.zip and save anywhere as you whish -you can save it on your Desktop,in Documements...it's without any meaning where you save it -it's your choose.
3.Extract from PowerOpt.zip PowerOpt.reg file
4.Run cmd.exe with administrative previlliges (right click on cmd.exe as admin) and type in window:

psexec -s -i -d regedit

(above command will run regedit from SYSTEM account level -it is neccassary)
5.choose File>>Import ,find location where you store PowerOption.reg, choose this file, apply and next restart computer

Have you tried "sfc /scannow" command? If yes post log from this:

Run cmd.exe with administrative previlliges (right click on cmd.exe as admin) and type in window:

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt

On your desktop appear sfcdetails.txt file ->attache this file to post.

hmmm no help with the cmd.exe. so it seems as though i will definitely have to do a system restore but this problem has been happening so long that to find a restore point that will encompass the time period is impossible.. My cd rom also isnt working so i cant reinstall everything. Is there anyway i can restore in light of my above problems??

At some point yu are going to have to consider a clean re-install. Do you have a recent working backup? do you have a ssecond HD or USB stick to re-install from?
