Did you put the exact same ram to double it up? If you didn't then you will have problems. You can always put in higher speeds of ram but never go to lower speeds with out having some issues. I would recommend putting exactly what came with computer, if you had 2 1gigs of ddr2 pc2 6400, then put two more of the same and there should be no problems. Good luck

thanks bassfisher, that is what i was suppose to say.
@pat , a problem was happen to me before, adding another 2 stick (2gb ocz pc 6400) but diffrent from my previous 4g of RAM (2x 2gb of Patriot pc6400).
adding memory but differnt in stimings and speed can cause your pc freez or even BSOD.

Don't use that. well you can. it would be ok.

You need to run Memtest86. it's one of the best programs that will let you know if your ram is good or not. Download the software. burn it to a disk, then restart your computer and load from the Disk. it will run and check your RAM, usuallly people get errors within the first hour if they are going to at all. but sometimes it takes longer. It's not a Guarantee'd program. It's failed me in the past, but it's known to be the best.

Run this. if you get errors. Figure out what stick is bad. and get it replaced. download the free run and give it a try. It should help you out.

Memtest86.com - Memory Diagnostic

also as someone else had mentioned. Make sure the timings are set to the same timings. if they are different that can cause it. Also G-Skill has been known for needing more volts than the average RAM does. I have the 2x2GB kit of G-skill 1000 MHz. and it needs 2.1v in BIOS. well thats what they recommend. So look on the box your ram came in, and see what voltage it recommends. and then set your RAM voltage to that. Thats another idea. let us know how it goes

Uh.....if you put higher speed RAM in the system, isn't that the same as putting lower speed RAM in the system assuming both speeds are compatible with the system and we ignore the RAM performance?? Either way you end up with mismatched speed RAM in the system.

The second sentence in the quote above is what makes the most sense.

Using 4x1gb instead of 2x1gb may require increased voltages or slower timings set in the BIOS.

Like xguntherc suggested, it's best to use memtest86+ which you should run from a bootable CD or floppy. Keep the CD inserted so when you reboot after each BIOS adjustment it goes straight into the tester instead of booting Windows.

First, you can test each pair separately. You already found that a 2x1gb set runs OK, so test each 2x1gb pair on its own. That way you exclude the possibility of faulty ram chips.
Next test with all 4 sticks inserted. If it shows an error in memtest, try a small increase in the ram voltage or the Northbridge voltage. Unfortunately it's very time consuming as you have to run a long test after each change. You can quit the test as soon as one error is reported.

If it doesn't say on the package, it should say on the G.Skill website what is the max ram voltage you can set for this particular product.
