Screensaver randomly re-enables password protect logon screen??

Basically, I have a default Vista screensaver, changing it does not help, and I set it NOT to ask for a password upon resume (ie - NOt to display logon screen)
However, it seems that almost randomly, Vista will somehow re-enable the logon screen on resume, so when I resume from a screensaver, I have to enter my password. When I go into the screensaver settings, the box is NOT ticked, but the only way to revert back to my desired behaviour is to tick, apply, untick and then reapply.

Any helps pleasE???

You leave us guessing when you don't tell us all about your system, as is requested in the forum rules.

But screen savers have not really been required since the color picture tube was invented. Definitely NOT for LCD monitors.

I simplify things and decrease the chance of problems by just disabling all screen savers, from the mobo and Windows. Try it!

Sleep and hibernate are two more things that cause countless problems for PC users every year. Disable them!

Then when you're not using your PC for an extended period of time, turn it OFF.
NO OS except Server Software is designed to run all the time.

Good Luck, and Happy Computing!

I do apologise, I posted in a hurry and completely forgot.

My system is -

Asus A8n-32 sli deluxe
AMD FX-60 Running at stock
A geforce 7900GTX and 8200gs running tri-monitors.
4GB OCZ platinum ram
2 x Raptor 150GB drives.
M-audio delta 1010lt Sound.

I have disabled the screensaver now, and really, it's not a loss, but nevertheless I am still perplexed by this problem.

Sleep and hibernate are both disabled and have been for a long time.

As an old tech, I can understand the "perplexed" part when something disappears.
But consider it like a wart on your nose and thank goodness it's "GONE"!

Sounds like a great system you've got there.

I hope those two drives are SATA2. (?)

And, I hope you're got a Husky PSU to power all that hardware.

Good Luck to ya!

Those drives are indeed Sata2. And my power supply is definetely adequate for the moment. Alas, just what I suspected has happened!
Despite the fact that the screensaver is disabled, the Logon screen has randomly enabled itself when resuming the monitors from standby. ARG.

Hi Shawn, I double checked that and it was definetely set to No. But I enabled, applied, then disabled for good measure just to see if it helps. Thanks for the help.

You are right that the original purpose of screen savers to prevent screen burn-in for CRT monitors is no longer true or needed for LCD monitors. However, screen savers can still be useful for hiding the desktop while the computer is locked or not in use though. Plus, they are better than a blank screen. ;)

So, it seems that despite the screensaver being disabled, and password resume form sleep definetely being disabled, I am STILL being faced with the logon screen when waking the monitors from standby. Any thoughts?

My Computer

So no further thoughts on the matter?
I was thinking it may be something that can be resolved using gpedit, but I am not sure where to start.
Also, possibly related, my backup programme - Acronis True Image Home 11, frequently is unable to complete a scheduled backup with the error 'Username or password for remote resource <my ext. disk here> is incorrect' The username is definetely correct and there is NO password.

Help!
