I have tried the following, but got the same problem
- Control Panel -> Admin Tools -> Computer Management
- Start Command Prompt as Administrator, then enter compmgmt.msc.
- Start Command Prompt as Administrator, then enter devmgmt.msc.
- Start Command Prompt as Administrator, then enter diskmgmt.msc.
- Computer Restore - Tried several restore points, but still broken.
- Booted with Vista DVD, then repaired system. But still broken.
- Tried using sfc /scannow to repair system. But it aborted after 76% complete and returned the following error: Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation
- Tried using sfc in Safe Mode, but got the same resource error as above
- Booted with Vista DVD, started command prompt, and tried using sfc to repair system, but got the same resource error as above.
