Solved System slow after using winrar

After using winrar to extract a large file (1gb+) my computer becomes really slow. The only way to fix it is to restart it which takes about 10 mins! I have noticed in task manager that the Physical Memory is up over 90% after extracting a large file. I never used to have this problem how can I fix it? Thanks.

Hi ToonArmy,

It may be something that WinRar has caused. As a test uninstall it, then try the free 7-Zip program instead to see how it runs on your system.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hi Toonarmy,

looks like a memory leak with winrar, expanding file to memory and not releasing after use. you could try checking that you're using the latest version if not try something like 7-Zip and see if it happens with that. not a cure but may implicate or clear Winrar

also is the 10min reboot a normal occurrence or only in this situation?

Cheers guys I will try the newest version of winrar now and the 7-Zip if that doesn't work.

@barman58- the 10 minute reboot is only after using winrar the mouse is so slow and it takes 5 mins just to get the start menu up!

No problems at all mate. It wasnt just reboot it was getting the mouse to move properly and clicking the start button that was taking so long! Even clicking on 'My Computer' or something would take a few mins to open after using winrar! All seems fine now anyway so thanks for the help.
