Mail link in start up menu

I have looked through the forum and didn't see anything that might help. I'm not gonna ask how to make the start menu link either windows mail or live mail. I want to know how to make the link use Firefox (and not Explorer which I don't use) when it opens up a browser to connect to mail??????

Firefox is set as my default browser but apparently the link bypasses the default browser choice and automatically uses Explorer

On a second note. My explorer will not run in the protected mode even after I go through and change all the settings to enable protected mode it always says "protected mode - off" in the bar at the bottom when running. any ideas?

Thanks for the tip on UAC. I guess I'll never use explorer again then. UAC is quite possibly the most annoying aspect of Vista I have found to date. Like I need yet another window to verify my choices. I really dislike the fact that my computer is asking for permission to do things. I wouldn't have hit the "OK" button if I didn't want it done. Not to mention when you turn it off the shield is then always at the bottom of your screen telling you UAC is turned off. Again, of course it is, I turned it off. I had to turn off all security notifications just to get rid of it. Hope, I don't actually ever need one because of a real security issue. Thanks for more annoying crap Microsoft. Sorry about the rant, but so far Vista gets a thumb down from me.

Anyone got any ideas on the E-mail link question?
