Installation problem

I purchased an HP Dv9000 with Vista Ultimate x64 pre-installed. It came with the recovery partition, but I never made the discs *stupid me*. So I went to do the Restore to Factory Condition option one day just to clean it up a little, and it messed up in the middle, and restarted. From then on I couldn't boot vista. HP said it was some kind of Hard Drive problem, and wanted 450 bucks to repair it. I ended up Formatting and Installing XP...and the HD worked perfectly and has ever since. I bought another HP Hard Drive and purchased the Recovery Disk for Ultimate x64, and from that point on have not been able to get this working. I have XP on D: ..... C: is devoted to Vista. But the disc has but one option - Install. It installs 25 gigs of information (files and folders, and some kind of OS Image) and leaves the rest as unpartitioned space. I have high hopes - I truly believe the OS is here, but I can't get it to work. I fixed the boot.ini to point to Vista as well, but it needs a hal.dll ...Can anyone help? Thanks
