Hello Betsy, welcome to Vista forums!

Maybe these instructions will help you.

HP Recovery Center

Be advised that this will take the machine back to the point when you first took it of the box.
The "HP Recovery Center" will give you the option to send to backup anything you
don't want to lose, so have backup media available to use if you choose this option.

With the machine off press the power button, as soon as you do that start tapping the F11 key.
That should take you to the HP Recovery Center. When there just follow the prompts.
It is pretty much self explanatory. From the time you boot into F11 (not counting
any backups you choose to make) you should be back on a working desktop in about
30 minutes. After it restarts just follow the prompts again to finish the process.

If your first option is system restore select no, which should take you to system recovery.
You want to try system recovery not system restore, unless you have good restore points!

I sure hope you find a solution, please keep us informed!

Later  Ted

    My First Build ;)
Hello.
I had the same problem today. The problem is (or at least with mine) was that the computer is trying to recover from the recovery partition and not the disc. Press F10 on boot up and change the boot order so the CD/DVD drive boots first instead of the hard drive. Then the recovery disc will work. This is what tech support told me to do and it worked! The computer was trying to recover from the boot partition that deletes itself when you make a recovery disc, so it gives that error message.

My Computer

I have the same problem on an HP Pavilion a6112n

I have the same problem on an HP Pavilion a6112n- going on 2 weeks now. All I want to do is reinstall the factory settings.
I've been using the recovery disks and never get passed 84%. The 'recovery from Hard Drive' Option does not work- When booting from the hard drive I get a blank(black) screen with a blinking cursor in the top left.
Hardware Diagnostics says everything passed, so HP says it must be my recovery disks. I'm 42 days past my 1 year warrantee, so HP wants ME to PAY For new recovery disks.
I'm ticked-off at HP. I made the recovery disks as recommended, but this solution simply does not work.

Ok, I’m done ranting. Lol! Here’s where I’m at:
Cleaned the smudgesI’ve tried cleaning the smudges. Right now, I am making copies of the disks- hoping it’s just a scratch in the disks
These are the error messages I've received after the 84 % wait :
0x400110020000100a
0x400110020000100c
0x4001100200001005
Can anyone make a recommendation? Or perhaps recommend a free/super-cheap way to get new disks???
Any help is SUPER-appreciated!
Jackie

Another voice to the discussion. I am experiencing sudden computer freeze (compaq presario c700 (c792VU). One program running (VLC to listen to some music). Computer stopped, black screen. Restored to previous restore point. Disintalled VLC. THen it stopped with only IExplore open. Did not black out, but froze. Could not do ctrl-alt-del, cursor not working.
HP web page is completely useless
Notebook Stops Responding when Using a Program

I run a diagnostic software and everything seems to be fine.
I have no clue whether it is something related to the video board or Vista or a particular program (have not installed anything dodgy though).

Any hint on how to understand what the problem is would be much appreciated.
THanks
rob
