Solved Screensaver Not Working

Mods...sorry, I originally posted this in the "Drivers" section by mistake. Please delete that post if you like.

Okay here's a good one...
I am running Vista Home Premium x64 with a Microsoft wireless mouse and keyboard combo. Back in Feb 2008 I downloaded the optional "HID Non-user Input data filter" update and installed it. This fixed my screensaver not working issue. Then, 4 days ago my screensaver stopped working again. In my system I see that the update is still installed. The only thing that changed is I upgraded my Norton Antivirus 2008 to 2009, and installed one of the standard "Automatic Updates" for Microsoft Windows. Does anyone have any clue as to why or how to fix it again? Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is driving me bananas and I am beginning to lose sleep over this stupid issue . Thank you for any help you can provide.

OK...here's an update. I have uninstalled the intellipoint software, uninstalled the HID Non user input data filter, reinstalled everything and my screensaver is still not working. As soon as I unplug the receiver for the Mouse/Keyboard, the screensaver works again. For some reason the "patch" that Microsoft has come up with will not work anymore. Am I missing something? When I uninstall the software and drivers for the Mouse/Keyboard, is there a file that is being left behind that is affecting the "patch"?

Thanks for the reply Ted.
I looked over the tutorial. Yes, I am able to get my screensaver/sleep/hibernate to work, but ONLY by uninstalling the drivers that came with my mouse and keyboard. If I do that, everything works fine. What I don't understand is why the HID non user data interface "patch" worked for a period of about 9 months and then all of the sudden it just stopped working. I have uninstalled the drivers for the mouse and keyboard about twenty times and tried reinstalling them, letting Windows update pick up that I need the HID non user data interface patch, reinstall the "patch", and the screensaver/sleep/hibernate still won't work.

Right now, according to Device Manager, there are NO drivers installed for my mouse and keyboard, but they are working, unfortunately without the functionality of the software that came with the mouse and keyboard (the software that controls the "extra" keys on the keyboard...i.e. calculator, mail, internet and "hot" keys). It just really bothers me that 2 weeks ago everything was fine, and now for no apparent reason I cannot get everything to function the way it used to (the way it was intended). I am really believing that there may be something jacked up in my registry (that doesn't get cleared out when I uninstall my mouse and keyboard drivers).

The big problem comes when I uninstall the drivers...yes, my screensaver/sleep/hibernate works again, but, if I restart my system, for whatever reason, the drivers will automatically reinstall themselves, causing the screensaver/sleep/hibernate to no longer work AGAIN. I know this issue for me is a deep one...probably something registry related. Can anyone offer suggestions on maybe which directory in the registry I should be looking at and what type of values in that or those directories should raise red flags? I would sincerely appreciate any help.

Thank you.
Matt

Update...I had tried everything that was offered as a solution...to no avail. As it turns out, the receiver must have been going bad. I purchased a newer model Microsoft keyboard and mouse combo, plugged it in, installed the "patch", and now everything is working just fine. Go figure. Thank you everyone for all your help!
