hi i recently built a new pc i partitioned my drives so i have C: and E:, i edited the registry so the users folder and all the subfolders such as documents and downloads are on my E: drive, however when i open my users folder then my username folder 'simon' and create a new folder it appears on the C: drive instead, anyone have a suggestion because this is very frustrating, every other one works, if i save a file to my desktop it goes to E:drive which is exactly what i wanted, hope to hear from someone, and thanks in advance.

Hi Sipherlucian, and welcome to Vista Forums.

They will still appear on the C: drive, but actually be stored on your E: drive. To double check and verify this, right click on the folder and click on Properties. Look in the Location tab to see if it is actually point to the E: drive. If it is, all is ok. If it is not, then you may have a program that is using the folder (ex: Documents) to store it's data or files in, and is recreating it. See the Warning box at the top of this tutorial for more on this.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

hi shawn thanks for your reply, not sure if you got what i meant though, heres the way it is right now. c:/users/simon/ there is nothing in there. and e:/users/simon/desktop and all the other standard folders like downloads, pictures and videos are there too. if i make a new folder inside the download folder example e:/users/simon/downloads/test the folder stays there as it should. but if i make a new folder for example e:/users/simon/test it doesnt stay there it moves to c:/users/simon/test. its like the computer still thinks the simon folder is in the c drive. ive stored a tonne of files in the test folder i created on e drive but i asure you its moving to the c drive, does this make more sense? thanks again for the reply

Ok, I see now what you meant. All of your user folders have incorrect locations assigned to them inside the Desktop folder. Using Option Three in the tutorial below, you will need to change the folders back to their default locations in the registry. Afterwards, you may need to delete any left from the Desktop location still listed.

Before you start, backup anything you do not want to lose in the user folder just to be safe in another location other than in a user folder.

Hope this helps,
Shawn
