First off, try using puncuation and paragraphs - it's awfully difficult to read your post!

Second, when you say your turned off the machine, did you physically remove the mains connector? Modern computers still receive power to the motherboard even though it has been turned off. Messing with internal connectors with the mains line still plugged in is one way to fry a motherboard and other peripherals.

Try entering your BIOS and restting to failsafe or optimal defaults.

FYI, Frying components due to electrical discharge due to your own tinkering will void the warranty.

Easy there Chuck! No-one accused you of anything.

Whether your where tinkering or not, or you accidentally brushed against a faulty molex connector is irrelevant. The fact of the matter is that the side panel of your computer was open, and the mains supply was still connected. Such a scenario is an accident waiting for a time to happen, as you have discovered.

The moral of the story is - if you remove the side panel of your PC for whatever reason, make sure that the machine is properly powered down first and the mains supply is disconnected!

It was by no means an accusation. It is simply a fact.

If your power supply is defective, warranty wise you are not permitted to make repairs. That voids the warranty under law

If your trying to RMA other PC parts due to a fault power supply surge, most companies will end up charging you a full replacement cost for the damaged drive in the end as it is not a fault of the manuf during the manuf process. Warranties are meant to cover defects. They don't cover damage caused by a completely different component.

IF this happens to be a brand name PC and not individual components, you may have more luck since the system itself is under warranty.

It's just advice so you know what to expect.

As the user said above me, ANYTIME you crack open your case, you should ensure the power cord is disconnected. I've accidently incorrectly connected power cords to devices during a hot swap that nuked my system. Luckily no damage was done, it just created an electrical short.
