File Association

Hi

I am experiencing difficulty concerning file association with email shortcuts as can be seen in the attachment. When I click on what I think is my email shortcut, I receive the attached message.
This has only started within the last days and wonder if anyone can instruct me how to correct this error.

Thanks in advance for any help / advice

Re: File Association

create a empty text doc on your desktop and call it "mail.eml"

1. right-click > open

2. a dialog box pops up "windows cannot open this file", choose "select a program from a list of installed programs.

3. if your program isn't in the list:
a) make sure the "always use the selected program..." box is ticked.
b) browse to your mail program and select its EXE as the target

windows mail is located here (if C is where your operating system is installed):
"C:\Program Files\Windows Mail\WinMail.exe"

hope that helps
Bleep!

Re: File Association

Hi

Your input appreciated. H/ever I think it's possible I am doing something incorrectly. I got as far as creating a text doc which I named ''mail.eml'' as suggested. I execute para 1. only to discover what is mentioned in para 2 is not happening (no dialog box pops up saying ''windows cannot open this file'' t/4 unable to select program from list of programs.
Can you if possible say where I might have gone wrong. Forgive my stupidity.

Re: File Association

no problem xonk1! you have a few options....

#1
start menu > settings > control panel > default programs > "Set Default Programs"
...and choose the program you prefer.

failing that....continue with my first post by doing this:
Right click on the file ""mail.eml" > open with > choose default program > browse

look for your email programs location: for example windows mail is usually located here "C:\Program Files\Windows Mail\WinMail.exe"

EDIT: but if you use something else to view mail.....look for that in the "browse" part above. if you normally use your browser only for online mail, then try adding your browser to the list.
