Deleting XP Partition

bray:way

BLAH!!
Power User
Hi There!
i need some help with my vista, i want to delete my Windows XP Pro partition on my HDD as i am running out of space, when i goto disk management in admin tools it doesn't give me the option to delete as it is non-clickable, i also want to merge the XP partition once i've deleted it. My OS is Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit,
thanks in advance

Is XP listed as boot partition drive C:? If it is, you need to backup and reinstall.

Not if its the boot partition. It contains the boot.ini, ntldr and other boot files. The registry is set to boot from this partition. The only way to remove it is backup and remove all partitions, repartition and reinstall then restore data after reinstalling the apps.

You could get a larger hard drive and use Acronis to image to a larger drive.

No. You have drive C: for XP and boot files. D: or another drive letter for Vista. You can't remove C: without causing the computer to never reboot. You can backup to an external drive and reinstall just Vista, apps and restore data.

Your best solution is backup and reinstall completely from fresh drives.
