Please Help Major Problems

I am getting messages to run a chkdsk for 3 different corrupt files. I was unable to run chkdsk. I followed all details I found on this website, but I dont have Session Manager under hkey_local_machine/system/currentcontrolset/control. I also tried to download the .reg, but no option to merge.

I also lost all sound. It seems like problems just keep getting worse and more things are not working. Any assistance would be most appeciated.

Hi,

Press the Windows key and the Break key together on your keyboard. The system window will pop up - you can see the operating system details there - note if you have SP1 installed and if it is 32bit, or 64bit.

Hard to say what happened from your description. A system restore to a point before it happened may fix it.

Before you do that , suggest you download , install , UPDATE and do a full scan with these free tools.

Hope it helps

Hi, and Welcome to the forums!

Another thing that can help is is the names of the files that the system wants you to run chkdsk for, this may hold some info for us so please post them.
This sure sounds like you've picked up some sorta nasty thing recently so make sure to use the tools that "SIW2" linked you too.

I did run the items that were suggested. I am now walking back through all the steps to fix chkdsk. Will let you know.

Malware did find something that my internet security missed.

I keep getting interrupted by the family.

I keep getting interrupted by the family.

LOL!!
That never helps does it...

Anyway, I'm sure curious to know what files it wanted to check, if you can remember or if they're listed in an Event Viewer log somewhere, it may help us out here.

Keep us posted

I can't catch the whole file path, but I get two of the corrupt file messages one for AOL and one for mail backup.

I did complete How to Repair and Verify the Integrity of Vista System Files with System File Checker

I had some files that the system could not correct. I need now to look up how to do that.

I appreciate the support. Once I fix the corrupt files, I hope it fixes my other issues. I won't be able to spend much time tonight working on the computer, but hopefully I will resolve issues tomorrow.

I will reply Friday to either give good news or ask for additional help.

My Computer

Help again. I just tried
findstr /C:"[SR] Cannot repair member file" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >sfcdetails.txt
and I get the message "FINDSTR: Cannot open C:\cbs.log

Now what?

My Computer

ok,my mistake. I typed something wrong. I need to try again. Now when I type
edit sfcdetails.txt nothing happens. I'm not technically savvy. I just know how to use them. Let me try again. I'll start a new thread when I can work uninterrupted.
Thanks
