Solved Vista Ultimate doesn't lock after sleep or screen saver

I was wondering if anyone knew what settings I could change to lock the computer after it goes to sleep/screen saver kicks in (like XP Pro does). I just realized that after the screen saver and/or sleep kicks in, when I reactivate the computer, it doesn't revert to the windows logon screen (yes, the on resume, display logon screen is checked in the screen saver), it goes straight back into the account it was in.

I tried changing all kinds of security settings but to no avail. Anyone know a way around, or if this is a common issue?

PS - I set my logon screen to not show user names, so you need both the user name and password to access any account (and no-one can tell how many accounts are on the system), not sure if that "setting" is an issue to automatically go to the log-on screen after sleeping/screen saver. Help...thanks.

Hello QuantumJump, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Double check to make sure that you have password resume on wakeup enabled for both the screen saver and from sleep mode.

Also, if you have automatic logon enabled, you may need to turn that off for the user account as well.

Thanks for the welcome and the quick responses. I found out the problem, and decided to share, in case anyone else runs into the same issue. I have a very unique setup, with every "security" option set-up, which is causing me a PITA, and problems which may not be experienced by anyone else. However, with the fact that a lot of people don't want the logon to engage, simply disabling the lock feature, will keep the computer from requiring a password after screen a screen saver or sleep engages, or by any third party software which may not be as controlable as windows, and be an atlernative to not using the software.

My computer has multiple users, and the admin account on my machine has to be always and forever logged in (it records and tracks all phone conversations, very important it never stops), in order to make any accidental log out possible. I removed everything but "switch users" feature from ctrl-alt-del (since two other people have access to the admin account), and removed the log-off button from the start menu. I also did this to the user accounts, because of another problem with email retrieval which stops working if a standard account logs off before a reboot.

Anyways, I apparently "disabled" the lock feature, instead of just hiding it. What I did not realize is that the "lock" function engages, after a screen saver engages (if a screen saver is set to "display logon screen on resume"). Since lock was unable to engage, Vista never took me into a logon screen, and just kept running the current user.

I re-enabled the lock function and after the screen saver kicks in, the lock kicks in, taking me to the logon screen.

I have the opposite problem. My work installed some kind of software on my machine to join me to the domain (it isn't a Windows domain), and every time I exit my screen saver, I have to retype my user name and password. I would like to disable this because it is quite annoying. I found a site that mentioned a registry key that I could change, and I did it on my laptop, but I can't find the site, and I don't know which registry key that I modified. Does anyone have any suggestions?

This may be able to help below. Be sure to also do the NOTE box as well for the screen saver.

However, since this may be something enforced by the domain settings, you may need to contact the domain administrator to change this setting instead.
