Check default programs and make sure powerdvd is default for both dvd/blu-ray. If you cannot open the following programs you may need to reinstall Cyberlink software suite.

LG GGC-H20L Super Multi Blue Blu-ray Disc & HD DVD-ROM - Software Bundle

CyberLink PowerDVD 7 Ultra
The version of PowerDVD bundled with the GGC-H20L only supports 2 speaker output. If you want to take advantage of movies encoded with Dolby Digital or DTS, you'll need to buy the retail version of PowerDVD Ultra.

This will tell you if there are any problem issues with your computer That could be preventing playback- including the drive itself. If you are all in the "Green", consider upgrading your software.
Cyberlink BD Advisor

Note- Make sure you are running Vista SP1 as otherwise Vista will probably see your BD Drive as a DVD Drive. And you might want to think about upgrading your PowerDVD Ultra to a retail/download version. I have heard many people say they had problems with Blu-ray playback using the OEM version- and patches are far and inbetween.

Hp media smart dvd stopped playing blue ray moovies on my vista 64.
After an update.
Anyone experiencing the same problem?????

I had a similiar issue a few weeks back.

BD's that used to play stopped, and new ones wouldnt play. ( I use Powerdvd 8 ultra). In the end though it turned out after a software player update that it no longer liked my GPU driver-and considering it was a mobility card and ATI/AMD doesnt release updates I was feeeling a bit SOL.

By chance though, I uninstalled the driver and Windows installed a newer version, and everything was good- playback worked, even on the newer "Star Trek" release.

Also part of the issue is that the disc makers are always updating the (AACS), and the older players without the new encryption keys just wont work for the discs with the newer AACS.

Thanks for the reply. I will check unistalling the graphics card driver. The problem is on avery BD i tryed. even on the old ones it used to play. So it is not the AACS.

Thats what mine did. The issue was the Player- Apparently for them to keep in the good graces of the Blu-ray commision, they must update the players- if you check your files- I bet you'll see that you have been getting periodic "automatic" updates.

I own Spiderwick, and Star trek- never has any probs with Spiderwick, then all of a sudden it wouldnt play anymore and I got a message that "a update for playback was required"

I had to update the player AND I had to update my GPU driver in order to play a new disk and an old disk that had worked before, but didnt anymore.

So you have a few things- the software player and its periodic "automatic" updates, and the AACS- the new player didnt like my GPU driver, and so it prevented playback.
