I have resized my icons and arranged my vista 64b desktop, but when I boot or when I come out of standby, all my settings are lost. How can I make this permanent ?

Thanks for your reply Airbot, but it did not work for me. I deleted Iconcache and rebooted.
Immediately after reboot the icons come up in the desired size, but then, after a flicker, they are resized smaller. How can I find out what causes this resizing ?
Another piece of information : If after they are resized smaller, I check the settings of the desktop context menu under View, it indicates Medium. If I then modify the setting into Classic or Large and then go back to Medium, then they are resized to what I want. Unfortunately, this setting is lost when I reboot or suspend.
Any new ideas ?
Thanks again.

Hmm, I don't really have an answer for you. Has it always been going on or did it just start to occur? Maybe something you have installed recently is causing this. Have you tried a system restore? Ran a malware scan? You can also try System File Checker. Let me know.

I am not sure. It's a new notebook, so I don't have a history. I should go back to original default and see how it works in original state and what happens after each piece of software I add. It's a lot of work. If I find something else I'll let you know. Thanks !!

By default, new notebook should not have this probs unless you have modified some default settings. Go back:

> Start > Control Panel > Select Classic view then > click Internet Options > Under Tabs, click Settings > Restore defaults, then ( you can click options on pop-up and Links) click OK.

Next, click Advanced > Restore Advanced settings. If you have not been here before, just make sure the top three (of 5)boxes are unchecked while the next 2 are checked > Apply > OK. All these are for maintaining text sizes from browser to browser and reboots. The icon sizes after sleep or screen saver is a different story.

Right click on taskbar empty space > Properties > Start Menu. Here, toggle between Start menu and Classic Start Menu options> Customize > Apply . If it is not solved go back and click only (do not toggle anymore)the top option (Start menu) > Customize > check both boxes at the bottom (Internet link and e-mail link) > OK > Apply > OK.

Sometimes in the process, a warning might pop up about "Window explorer stopped working" in which case just click restart W explorer.
