Hi blackpoison,

This is the UAC (User Account Control) in action. Normally, you would provide the name and password of an administrator account to continue, this typically being the account created when you installed Vista. However, in your case, things are different. I take it that the laptop in question is not actually yours but belongs to the office in which you work. If that is the case, you need to talk to your Systems Administrator or IT support. Restrictions may have been put in place to prevent employees installing unauthorised programs. If the program is to assist you in your work, ask them to install it (providing, of course, that they approve of its use). They should also be able to help you with your other problem.

May I used wrong word:If you really have phrases NoSaveSettings in these keys - they must be disappeared completly,of course if you set them to 0 theoreticly blockade should disappeared also but practically there is 1% chance then system mistake and can block something, even if responsoble phrase is set to 0,so removing phrases are 100% credible (exlude options with infection :p).I attache bellow *.reg file which do exactly what I order you -Will be better if you double click on it +restart

I'm not see info about phrase NoSaveSettings in Brink's tutorial

 So there are special tools to decrypt passwords or add yourself to Administrators group for example Offline NT Registry editor (link not work now - I don't know why) or John the Ripper password cracker but these kind of tools will be work only if you don't have encrypted disk - because it is office I foresee unfortunatly it is.So you have to before decrypt disk - it is difficult and very expensive.

I would suggest asking you IT dept for the password, every company I have worked at if somebody hacked/reset the admin password then they would get fired for compromising my network.

Hi blackpoison,

In addition to what John has said, can I refer you back to my other post in this thread. In an office situation, it is upto the System Administrators what they permit to be installed on their machines. They are unlikely to give you the password - and if they do, they will most likely change that password on the remainder of their machines - this is to prevent any possible security issues that may arise. The only way, as I mentioned earlier, is to ask your IT support to evaluate this program. If they approve it, they may install it for you and also possibly roll it out to the other machines in the office. One thing that they will be looking at is cost effectiveness - in other words, is it going to cost them more to implement than what they get in return. In addition, it depends on the licensing for the program in question. For personal use, that license may be as little as £10 per year, or even free. In a corporate environment, that could change and it could be £100+ per machine per year, although your IT support may be able to negotiate a special deal. That is why you need to seek approval from your IT support department - they won't bite you, and they might be able to come up with a solution that is suitable for everybody.

I work IT helpdesk and the only people we give local admin rights to are Developers and International Travelers. Most likely, given that it is a work machine, you're not supposed to have administrative rights. And here the local Admin account is disabled so even changing the password would do you no good.

And they should! There's a reason IT departments set up limited user rights, and it has been explained - Network Security!!!

Instead of coming in here looking for ways to get around their security, you should present your case to them as to why you need admin rights. If they feel it is valid, you'll get them, if not, accept it and move on.

I personally think this thread should be deleted as it is obvious that the poster is attempting to breech someone’s network security.
